Big Brothers Big Sisters Wins Chili Challenge 2023

The challenge, held on November 16th, was to raise funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Plains (BBBS). The day got even better for BBBS when they learned that their chili won the contest as well. When asked if they expected to win, Jan Halmarson had a simple reply.

“No, we only offered to do this because (the funds are going to) our charity,” explains Halmarson. “We were just so happy to be getting the money.”

All attendees were allowed to vote for their favourite chili. Along with BBBS, chilis were submitted by the Royal Bank of Canada, Greenberg & Greenberg, MNP, the Prairie Drama Academy, The Portage Fire Department, Journey Wealth, and Sobeys.

Hannah Brown and Cassidy Hockin from MNP were the organizers for this year’s Chili Challenge, bringing the event back after a three-year hiatus. Brown believes that the number of attendees increased due to the snowfall earlier in the day, citing the white stuff may have had people wanting to warm up with delicious chili.

“We decided to bring the chili challenge back because it just has such a good turnout for the community,” says Hockin. “At MNP, we love hosting events for charity and supporting the community and we feel like this is the best way that we can. It always has such a good turnout every year.”

When deciding where the funds would be going, each staff member at MNP nominated an organization, and then voted on who they thought most deserved it.

Brown and Hockin are grateful to all the volunteers and everyone who came by to sample the chilis.
