Bolivia Hosts Documentary Premiere for Palestinian Independence

The Ukamau Group Foundation of Bolivia will premiere The Root of the Olive documentary in La Paz to mark the 36th anniversary of Palestinian independence. The documentary commemorates the declaration of Palestine’s independence, which was proclaimed on November 15, 1988, by Yasser Arafat in Algeria.

The 54-minute film will officially debut at the New Latin American Film Festival in Havana in December, as confirmed by screenwriter and director Sergio Eguino.

Eguino explained that the documentary follows five Palestinians living in exile. They share their experiences of suffering due to Israel’s actions over the past 76 years, exploring themes like loss, resilience, and the longing for their homeland.

The film blends personal stories of family, friendships, and dreams with the pain of separation. Despite the challenges, the Palestinians in the film hold onto their hope for Palestine’s freedom and feel gratitude for Cuba’s unwavering support.

Eguino also highlighted the interviewees’ deep appreciation for Cuba’s solidarity. They praised the support of leaders such as Fidel Castro, Raúl Castro, and current President Miguel Díaz-Canel in their struggle for independence.
