Plata Scores Twice in Ecuador’s 4-0 Win Over Bolivia

Ecuador continued their impressive form in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, defeating 10-man Bolivia 4-0 in Guayaquil. This victory extended Ecuador’s unbeaten home record to 4 wins and 2 draws. The match was marked by quickfire goals in the first half, which put the hosts in control.

Ecuador showed their intent from the outset, pushing forward on the flanks and forcing Bolivia to defend deep. Despite dominating possession, they struggled with accuracy in the final third, and Bolivia’s goalkeeper, Guillermo Viscarra, made several key saves.

In the 18th minute, Ecuador had a golden chance to take the lead, but Enner Valencia failed to score from close range. However, Bolivia’s Jose Sagredo was sent off for a handball in the penalty area, allowing Valencia to convert the penalty and put Ecuador ahead.

Just after the restart, Gonzalo Plata doubled Ecuador’s lead with a delightful chipped finish over Viscarra, and shortly after, the team added a third through a thunderous strike from Plata. Minda completed the scoring in the 61st minute with a long-range shot.

With 83% possession in the first half, Ecuador maintained their dominance throughout the game, while Bolivia struggled to mount any significant attack in the second half. The victory puts Ecuador in a strong position for qualification, while Bolivia will look to bounce back against Paraguay in their next match.
